Taxes are killing the industry

Dear Editor,

In the past year, the cost of fuel has taken a turn for the worse. We have seen truckers demonstrate their disgust with prices, while others sit back and take these fuel prices, lamenting silently.

Once again, fuel prices are getting disgustingly high. I could say we should all boycott the gas stations, but I won’t because it is a senseless idea.

The government refuses to lower fuel taxes? Well I say shame on the politicians. We are taxed beyond belief! If the government doesn’t smarten up, we will see demonstrations by truckers, imitating those of Europe. I personally support the truckers in their quest for decent fuel costs. It only benefits everyone.

I currently work as the general manager of a transport company in the Greater Toronto Area, and refuse to transport commodities from province to province. It is more economical to ship into the U.S.

If the Canadian government wants to destroy the transportation industry, it’s doing a bang-up job. Many owner/operators have disappeared due to these fuel prices.

My message to all politicians is a simple one: drop the fuel taxes because we’re tired of being your pack mules.
