TCA supports U.S. Senate fuel surcharge legislation

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has agreed to support the bi-partisan fuel surcharge legislation introduced in the U.S.

The legislation agreed to was the Motor Carrier Fuel Cost Equity Act of 2002, and the TCA says it’s critical the association supports the Act.

Brought forth by U.S. Senators Kerry and Bond, the fuel surcharge legislation has also been introduced in the House of Representatives.

The Senate version, however, would require a motor carrier to only pay its drivers for increases in fuel prices if the motor carrier is successfully able to collect the surcharge from the shipper.

Meanwhile, the House bill requires the carrier to pay the driver regardless of whether or not it is successful in collecting the surcharge from the shipper of the load.

The TCA is urging its members to write their local senators to show their support for the Senate version of the bill.
