ROADSIDE INSPECTIONS: They have become almost hallowed ground for enforcement agencies across the country. The effectiveness of these programs in improving safety have never actually been put to a rigorous test yet enforcement agencies in every province believe their inspection programs are necessary. They may well consider some of the research surfacing south of the border.

NEXT ISSUE

SAFETY RATINGS: Canadian jurisdictions have spent more than a decade implementing the National Safety Code. It’s time to evaluate the effectiveness of their programs and a good place to start would be to research the impacts of safety-rating regimes.
