Truck-Lite debuts bright ideas for trailers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Truck-Lite has introduced two new interior trailer lighting systems as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

The challenge with interior trailer lighting has always been to produce uniform lighting throughout the trailer.

Lights that impede too far into the van body, however, are often broken during the loading and unloading of freight. To this end, Truck-Lite has introduced the Model 80 LED Interior Trailer lamp as well as its new LED Super Strip-Lite.

Less vulnerable

The Model 80 LED lamp is designed as a replacement to the most commonly used interior trailer lights. Its low profile (one inch lower than previous designs) makes it less vulnerable to breakage, and because it’s an LED, Truck-Lite says it provides superior lighting capabilities.

“LEDs have many advantages over both incandescent and fluorescent lights,” Bob Ives, Truck-Lite vice-president of marketing announced at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

“In trailers, they provide a brighter, whiter light that allows a more realistic view of trailer contents. Perhaps more importantly, LEDs are more effective in the cold experienced in refrigerated trailers and van trailers in cold weather. They don’t flicker like fluorescent lighting.”

The aluminum housings are 5-3/16″ wide by 18-13/16″ long and they weigh two pounds.

LED Super Strip-Lite

Truck-Lite also introduced its LED Super Strip-Lite for trailer interiors at the Mid-America Trucking Show. The LED diodes are evenly spaced on two- or four-foot aluminum strips which are installed along the upper edge of the trailer interior.

This provides consistent lighting throughout the trailer with minimal intrusion into the body. Two styles of the LED Super Strip-Lite are available: Flat (for mounting anywhere along the roof) and angled (positioned at a 45-degree angle and ideal for mounting in the corners).

The company recommends mounting the strips in corners, or evenly spaced on roof interiors. In vocational trucks, the strips can be mounted along horizontal or vertical cabinet surfaces.

“The new LED strip lamps improve brightness inside truck bodies and trailers, and eliminate most shadows that interfere with a driver’s ability to get the job done,” said Bob Ives, vice-president of marketing for Truck-Lite.

The two-foot strips contain six diodes while the four-foot strips have 12. The lamps on a two-foot strip draw only 0.7 amps.

Truck-Lite officials say the improved lighting can reduce errors in product placement, item selection and paperwork. For more information, visit www.truck-lite.com.
