DIME-SIZED: The mini-marker meets all safety requirements although it’s a fraction of the size.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Truck-Lite introduced what company officials claim is the world’s smallest LED lamp to meet clearance, side marker and identification applications. They unveiled the Mini-Marker lamp at the Mid-America Trucking Show. Measuring less than 3/4″ in diameter and depth, the lamp is flush with the trailer reducing the risk of damage.
“We estimate that 40 per cent of fleet clearance marker lighting costs are a result of physical damage,” said Brad Van Riper, Truck-Lite president of research and development. “The majority of damage results from tree limbs hitting the front and passenger side of the vehicle. Another major factor is heat entrapment or physical damage resulting from extruded dock seals on the back at freight terminals when loading and unloading. With only one powerful LED in the new Mini-Marker lamp, you can significantly reduce these costs.”
Recent NHTSA rulings require rear identification lamps on new trailers to be mounted near the top of the vehicle. This is easy to achieve on even narrow top doorframes with the Mini-Marker, company officials said. Two mounts are available – a grommet mount and a more permanent and theft-resistant flange mount.
All that’s required for installation is a 3/4″ mounting hole – no tools are required for mounting.
Tim Walker, senior vice-president of worldwide sales for Truck-Lite, called the LED “one of the most innovative and exciting products that we have ever introduced.” Although the price has yet to be determined, Walker said it will be comparable to other LED lamps currently on the market.
