CALGARY, Alta. – A truck driver narrowly escaped with his life when a rock was thrown through his windshield from an overpass as he drove down the Deerfoot Trail in Calgary.

Steve McCormack, a 30-year trucking veteran, says the rock smashed through his windshield and missed his head by mere inches.

The incident comes just three weeks after an Edmonton bus driver was killed when a rock was dropped off an overpass, smashing through his windshield and causing fatal trauma to his abdomen.

“It scared the bejesus out of me,” McCormack tells local media.

“I’m lucky it hit where it did, and that it didn’t get me.”

The trucker managed to safely pilot his rig to the side of the road despite the shock of the incident.

Police are continuing to look for whoever was responsible for throwing the rock. They say McCormack was extremely lucky to survive.

“He was a couple of inches away from serious injury, or possibly death, you better believe it,” says acting Sgt. Don Klump.
