Trucker’s historical mags up for grabs

by Dean Askin

SUNDERLAND, Ont. – For anyone with a passion for the trucking industry, Clark Gordon’s magazine collection is a trucking history buff’s gold mine – and it’s up for grabs.

Gordon has amassed a collection of about 200 magazines, some dating back to 1972 and earlier. His collection that includes Bus & Truck, Driver-Owner, Independent Trucker and Trucking Canada, is a “two-and-a-half-foot high stack,” and full of industry history for anyone who wants to read about it or who just wants to own a piece of it.

Gordon, a truck driver since 1966, says he has over the years browsed through his large collection but never really read the magazines in depth because his numerous subscriptions kept piling up. “They just kept coming and coming,” he says.

“It’s a piece of history,” he says. “There are some writers who have come and gone.”

Gordon called Truck News about his collection and his desire to put it into the hands of anyone interested in the history of the industry over the past 30 years. Gordon was an owner/operator until he “gave it up” about five years ago. Today he’s “trying to retire,” filling in on part-time driving assignments on salt trucks, ballast trucks and floats – and trying to divest himself of his magazine collection that spans 30 years. If you’re interested in taking on the load of Gordon’s magazine collection and having a piece of trucking history, contact him at 705 357-2316.
