U.S. DOT numbers now required

WASHINGTON, D.C. – All Canadian carriers operating in the U.S. are now required to have a U.S. DOT number, different from the old ICC number commonly displayed by international haulers. Since July 3, all trucks engaged in Interstate commerce should have their U.S. DOT number posted on both sides of the cab.

According to a rule passed in July 2000, motor carriers were given up to two years to make the change from the ICC number to the DOT number.

Additional requirements can be found in 49CFR Part 390.21 at www.fmcsa.dot.gov.

Additionally, fleets must begin updating the information on their MC-150 every two years or sooner for new carriers.
