U.S. Peace Bridge plan chugs on
FORT ERIE, Ont. – The people in charge of expanding the U.S. facilities of the Peace Bridge, linking Buffalo, N.Y. and Fort Erie, Ont., say that they are ramping up to public consultations this summer.
“Because this is a very complex project, there is an enormous amount of planning that needs to be done prior to the start of the process,” says Vincent “Jake” Lamb, project manager of the Peace Bridge Expansion Project. The public input will be used to identify the best method for dealing with traffic congestion, as well as environmental impacts. Expansion of the U.S. facilities of the bridge originally began more than 10 years ago, but ran into a wall of public criticism. The process has since restarted from scratch, and shouldn’t be completed for years. n
