Vietnam Welcomes Canadian Cattle

CALGARY, Alta. – Alberta has inked a deal with Vietnam to re-open that country’s border to live Canadian cattle.

Alberta’s Learning Minister, Lyle Oberg made the announcement upon his recent return from a leadership summit in Asia.

Vietnam is hardly a top destination for cattle exporters, but Oberg was optimistic.

“We potentially have no market for our cows right now and I certainly think we can develop a market (in Vietnam),” Oberg told local media. “Vietnam is not much further than Japan. I think (the market) could potentially be huge.”

Oberg hopes other countries will follow the lead of Vietnam and also re-open their respective borders to live Canadian cattle.
