Winnipeg begins handing out photo radar fines
WINNIPEG, Man. – Winnipeg Police have begun fining drivers caught speeding under the city’s photo radar program.
For the past two months only warnings have been issued, with more than 15,000 violations reported at 12 intersections.
As of Monday, however, police will begin handing out fines under the city’s new mobile speed enforcement program.
Playground areas and construction sites will be targeted by the program, and unmarked cars will be used to catch speeders.
“There is no new law being created here,” Sgt. Jon Butcher tells local media.
“It’s about people simply obeying the existing laws.”
