The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is accepting nominations for its 2026 International Driver Excellence Award (IDEA), which recognizes professional commercial drivers who demonstrate exceptional commitment to safety.

The annual award honors a driver who has gone beyond the normal performance of duty, demonstrating outstanding safe driving and regulatory compliance over an extended period.

To qualify, nominees must have at least 25 years of cumulative crash-free commercial driving experience, a clean driving record for the past three years, no felony convictions, and no safety-related licence suspensions or driver violations during that time.

The award is open to drivers across the commercial trucking industry and nominees do not need to work for a CVSA member organization.

The 2026 IDEA recipient will receive $5,000, a crystal trophy, and travel to attend the CVSA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla., where the winner will be recognized during an awards luncheon on Sept. 23.

Nominations must be submitted by May 8 and the nomination form can be found here. The winner will be selected by a panel of IDEA program judges and approved by the CVSA executive committee.

This year’s award is sponsored by the PrePass Safety Alliance, which has supported the program for the past decade.
