PMTC conference to feature seminar on how to earn $10,000 tax credit

OAKVILLE, Ont. — The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC) plans to help fleets attending its annual conference learn how to take advantage of the $10,000 tax credit for apprentice drivers.

The seminar will be delivered by Kim Richardson of KRTS Transportation Specialists. The Ontario Tractor-Trailer Voluntary Apprenticeship Program will award a $10,000 tax credit for each of the first four years a program participant stays on the job. Apprentices themselves qualify for a $2,000 bursary upon completion of the program, the PMTC says.

”This is a valuable incentive for any recruiting and retention initiative, and many leading private fleets are already using it,” says Richardson. “But many people don’t know there are also ways to customize the program to reflect specific training needs.”

The PMTC Conference is scheduled for June 17-18 in King City, Ont.

”We invite every fleet manager to join us at the premier event for Canada’s private fleets,” says Mike Millian, PMTC president. “If your business uses trucks, this is the place to be.”

Other seminars will include:

  • Distracted driving— Examining distracted driving hazards, how to implement preventative measures, the latest research around “inattentional blindness”, and related legal implications.
  • Transportation trendsand private fleet benchmarks – Transportation Media publisher Lou Smyrlis unveils the latest research into private fleets and other trends in the transportation industry.
  • Driver shortage and retention strategies – An expert industry panel will discuss how to find, attract and keep the best employees.
