CALGARY, Alta. — Road Check may not be until later this week, but the Calgary Police Truck Unit held a multi-day truck blitz of its own recently.

Along with provincial inspectors in Lethbridge and Edmonton, officers pulled over 517 commercial vehicles for inspections.

More than 180 violations were recorded during the blitz, with 30 per cent of trucks being placed out-of-service. Thirty-seven per cent of trucks passed the inspections while another 33 per cent required minor repairs.

Common violations included insecure loads, exceeding allowable working hours and driving with suspended licences.
