Alcoa’s aluminum wheel design reduces rim flange wear

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Alcoa Wheel and Forged Products has introduced Dura-Flange, an aluminum wheel with a treatment on the rim that guards against excessive rim wear.

Alcoa’s patented Dura-Flange treatment was developed for applications where loads are heavy and prone to shifting, causing tire walls to rub against the wheel rims. Dura-Flange wheels are the only aluminum wheels that offer additional protection for trucking applications most susceptible to this type of wear.

Testing has shown that Dura-Flange treated wheels can double the life of the wheel, said Mark Holtz, marketing manager, commercial vehicle wheels and accessories for Alcoa Wheel and Forged Products.

"The Dura-Flange treatment retards excess wear and enables fleets to specify aluminum wheels and feel comfortable that they’ll perform to the standards they’ve come to expect from Alcoa," said Holtz.
