Automated trailer identification aims to reduce errors at hookup

Phillips Connect has introduced TrailerID, a system designed to automatically confirm which trailer is connected to a tractor at the moment of hookup, eliminating the need for manual driver input and reducing the risk of downstream operational errors.

Incorrect or skipped trailer selection can affect safety records, inspections, dispatch decisions, load security and billing, the company says. TrailerID addresses those risks by validating the physical tractor-trailer connection through the T/T Pair connector and sharing that verified information across fleet systems.

The event is presented to drivers through the DriverAssist in-cab experience and to back-office teams through the Connect1 platform, creating a shared, real-time record of trailer movement.

The company says accurate automatic identification helps maintain clean Hours-of-Service logs and inspection records, reduces mispulls, improves trailer visibility and availability tracking, and enables billing to begin based on verified activity rather than manual confirmation. It can also support load security by documenting when and where trailers are dropped.

TrailerID is available directly through Phillips Connect’s DriverAssist app and through integrations with in-cab platforms including Platform Science and Geotab’s OrderNow Marketplace.
