AUXILIARY ELECTRIC HEAT

We’re past winter — for the most part — but Dometic has nonetheless introduced a new series of electric heaters for trucks working in very cold climates like the Canadian north and Alaska. Available in 2.5 or 4.0 kW modules, they use multiple heater coils with two-stage heating control to provide precise temperature control. The Qt electronic control automatically throttles back heat and power consumption as the inside air approaches the setpoint temperature.

The compact self-contained heating unit (pictured here) can be mounted under a bunk or seat. Warm air can be discharged directly into the space or ducted to one or more grills.

At the recent Mid America Trucking Show, Dometic also showed off a new 15,000 BTU/hr self-contained air conditioning unit for specialty vehicles, emergency vehicles and other heavy-duty mobile applications. The system runs on 120V AC electricity from a shorepower connection or a diesel generator. All mechanical and electrical components, including the compressor, condenser and evaporator, are mounted on a compact chassis with built-in shock and vibration isolation and an aluminum sound shield. The sealed refrigerant circuit is precharged at the factory and requires no additional charge at installation.

The system has a 2.5 kW heating capacity as well as cooling, and can be installed in an undercarriage bay or storage locker.
