NANAIMO, B.C. — Kenworth says its trucks are proving popular with customers at Budget Car and Truck Rental in B.C.

Budget has a fleet of 44 Kenworth T170s and T370s equipped for driving conditions on Vancouver Island and the rest of B.C., according to the company. They have hydraulic brakes so a commercial driver’s licence is not required to drive them. They come with five-speed Allison automatic transmissions.

“Kenworth trucks have been very popular, particularly among our repeat commercial customers,” said Greg Willmon, director of fleet operations for Budget Car and Truck Rental.

Willmon says the B.C. network of Budget rental facilities depends largely on renting trucks to commercial customers, unlike franchises in other parts of Canada which rely more heavily on car rentals.

“Most products here on Vancouver Island are moved by truck and ferry, so we have a lot of commercial customers that haul their own freight and supplies in from the mainland,” Willmon explained.
