Bendix air disc brakes now on Volvo-Mack

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Volvo and Mack models now include Bendix heavy-duty air disc brakes.

The brake system will be optional on Volvo VN and VT model trucks as well as the Mack Pinnacle. It is available for order now.

Disc brakes can improve braking capacity and performance in demanding conditions, contributing to safer highway travel, say the companies. The Bendix ADB22X air disc brake delivers greatly reduced brake fade on long downhills, improved brake component life and reduced maintenance, while being less sensitive to adjustment than traditional S-cam drum brakes.

Volvo is offering the disc brakes on front and rear axles on Volvo VNs and VTs with front axle ratings from 12,000 to 13,200 pounds and 40,000-pound rear axle ratings. The disc brakes can also be ordered for front axle only.

Mack is also initially offering the Bendix disc brakes on 12,000 lb. front and 40,000 lb. rear supplier axles.

The addition of disc brakes — combined with the advanced vehicle control and rollover protection provided by Volvo Enhanced Stability Technology (VEST) — give drivers an even greater margin of safety, according to the truckmakers.
