Bendix sealed spring brake now available on Kenworth trucks
Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems has made its EnduraSure-Pro sealed spring brake for air disc brake (ADB) systems available as a factory-installed option on all Kenworth medium- and heavy-duty truck models.
The Bendix EnduraSure-Pro spring brake is designed to prevent moisture and contaminants from entering the unit — a leading cause of spring brake failure — helping fleets extend component life while improving uptime and safety.
“Our partnership with Kenworth goes back decades, to the early years of air disc brake adoption in North America,” said Nicole Oreskovic, vice president of sales and marketing with Bendix. “The addition of EnduraSure-Pro for air disc brakes adds even more value while helping to lower total cost of ownership for fleets and drivers.”
Unlike traditional vented spring brakes, the sealed EnduraSure-Pro design eliminates park-side drain holes and incorporates a one-way check valve within the dust plug. The system allows air to escape while helping keep water, dust and road contaminants out — reducing corrosion that can degrade the power spring.
Bendix says the design can deliver up to five times longer power spring life compared to standard spring brake configurations.
The technology also addresses a potential safety concern associated with air disc brake systems. A broken power spring — which can be difficult to detect compared to drum brake systems — may reduce parking brake effectiveness and increase rollaway risk. Protecting the spring helps mitigate that hazard, the company says.
Frank Gilboy, Bendix director of foundation drum brakes and actuators, said sealed spring brakes can benefit fleets across a wide range of applications, not just severe-duty operations.
“Fleets that choose air disc brakes can help protect their investment in this premium technology with the EnduraSure-Pro spring brake,” he said. “The longer you own your vehicles, the greater the benefit you’ll see from avoiding frequent replacements, including lower roadside service costs and reduced downtime.”
The EnduraSure-Pro spring brake is engineered to reduce coil clash — contact between compressed spring coils that can damage protective coatings and lead to corrosion — while maintaining consistent force output over time.
Bendix noted that protecting spring brake performance is increasingly important as fleets adopt air disc brakes to support advanced safety technologies such as stability control and collision mitigation systems.
