CANAM MANAC NET INCOME SLIPS

VILLE DE SAINT-GEORGES, Que. — The Canam Manac Group posted a net income of $7.4 million in the first quarter, down from $9.3 million in the year-earlier period.

On a per-share basis, that is 22 cents in this first quarter compared to $27 cents a year earlier.

The company’s sales reached $249.1 million compared with $252.8 million in 2000.

The company’s Manac semi-trailer and Tanguay forestry-equipment division had sales of $53.4 million in the period, down from $74.6 million in 2000. The division suffered a loss of $839,000, compared with net income of $2.9 million a year earlier.

Manac built 1,635 semi-trailers compared with 2,387 in 2000.
