LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Caterpillar has made a new high-tech tool available in their engines, which will aid truck owners to gather vital engine data.

The Caterpillar Pocket Technician works with a Palm handheld computer to provide access to 22 engine status parameters as well as 23 configuration parameters, 11 of which are interchangeable. It also extracts ECM information to display fuel mileage information to drivers and fleet owners.

“The Pocket Technician could easily replace $2,000 worth of tooling, while providing 95 per cent of the truck owner requested functions,” explains David Semlow, marketing manager of the Caterpillar Truck Engine Division.

Additional features include engine operation information such as temperatures, pressures and speeds, diagnostic codes, maintenance information and theft deterrent.

The Pocket Technician will soon be available online at www.cattruckengines.com/buystuff and will be available in a driver edition and fleet edition, which has added features.
