MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Highway 403 is being widened by one lane in each direction from Highway 407 easterly to Highway 401.

The work includes:

* widening and rehabilitating the Mullet Creek overpass, Credit River overpass, Central Parkway overpass and Matheson Boulevard overpass;
* lane and shoulder resurfacing;
* upgrading the Cawthra Road and Eastgate Parkway intersection;
* construction of a median concrete barrier along Highway 403 to better guide traffic and enhance safety;
* upgrading highway lighting between Central Parkway and Highway 401.

The widening will allow these new lanes to be designated as high-occupancy vehicle lanes — reserved for buses and vehicles with two or more occupants. To minimize disruption to motorists during construction, intermittent lane closures will take place during off-peak hours.

Construction start date: September 29
Construction completion date: Summer 2006
