VANCOUVER, B.C. — Cummins Westport Inc. announced it has received an order from France for an initial 78 CWI B Gas Plus and C Gas Plus engines.

The engines will be installed in refuse collection trucks and pressure street washers manufactured by PVI, a subsidiary of Ponticelli, for operation within the city of Paris. Delivery of the engines will begin this quarter and is expected to be complete in early 2005.

Paris authorities have recently set a target of 300 refuse collection trucks to be operating on natural gas by 2006, three times the current number in operation. Other large European cities are considering similar targets.

“This sale in France is further evidence of our international expansion efforts for both transit and refuse applications of our engines,” said Hugh Foden, President of CWI. “We are seeing strong growth indicators in a number of our refuse markets.”

The 230-horsepower B Gas Plus and the 250-horsepower C Gas Plus meet existing Euro III standards for emissions while maintaining the power and torque customers expect and require for city operations such as transit and refuse collection.
