DAF XF105 Voted Truck of the Year

DAF XF105: Europe’s Truck of the year

HANOVER, Germany — The DAF Trucks flagship vehicle, the XF105 86 introduced last year and manufactured since January, has been named the ‘International Truck of the Year 2007’ as voted by European truck journalists. The award was announced at a dinner during the 61st IAA Commercial Vehicles show. Runners-up were, in order, the Renault Premium Route 61, Volvo’s FL 31 and FH 16 28, MAN TGM 15, and DAF LF 7.

DAF, based in the Netherlands, is owned by Paccar, which also owns Kenworth and Peterbilt. The XF105 is equipped with the all new 12.9-liter Paccar engine, developed and produced by DAF, offering power ratings from 410 hp up to 510 hp. North Americans may see this engine in Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks in the future. The inline six is equipped with an SCR exhaust gas aftertreatment system in European form, meeting both Euro 4 and Euro 5 emission standards.

The DAF XF105 sports a spacious interior, largely a result of the lowered engine tunnel that produces a semi-flat-floor with stand-up height in both the Space Cab and the Super Space Cab models. First introduced in a typical European 4×2 configuration, it’s now available in many variations, including tandem-drive models. – Rolf Lockwood
