Daimler, Platform Science unveil Virtual Vehicle platform

Daimler Trucks North America has joined with Platform Science to launch the Virtual Vehicle platform that offers fleets access to telematics, software, vehicle data, and third-party apps directly from their vehicles.

The platform offers tools to manage the applications and connectivity, as well as the mobile devices drivers need to use them.

Daimler says it’s the first OEM to use cloud, edge, and in-dash tech to offer in-vehicle mobile technology that helps customers distribute, manage, and enable driver applications and connected vehicles services.

Fleets using the platform can choose third-party apps or telematics service provider applications, or even bring their own. That allows truck owners to customize experiences at a driver and app level.

Virtual Vehicle is available on Freightliner Cascadias manufactured Sept. 9, 2019, or later, and will be available as a monthly subscription.
