KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Dana Corporation’s Commercial Vehicle Systems Division continues to roll out its new lineup of heavy-duty axles including the new Dana Spicer D190 series of single-reduction tandem drive axles.

With Gross Axle Weight Ratings from 52,000 lbs. (D52-190 model) to 60,000 lbs. (D60-190 model), the new family of axles will be targeted to the more demanding vocational applications, such as construction, heavy haul, logging, refuse, mining, and oil field operations. Production and customer shipments are scheduled to begin in December.

“These innovative new axles, with our patented best-in-class axle technology, were developed to outperform and replace all other single reduction 52,000 to 60,000-lb. drive axles in the industry,” said Steve Slesinski, director of product planning for Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems Division.

Some of the features and benefits include; broad ratio coverage – 3.42:1 through 7.17:1 – allows maximum performance across a variety of vocations; extra wide face-width gearing adds greater strength over earlier designs for additional durability; newly designed gearing and bearing system adds improved durability and reliability for contemporary and future higher horsepower/torque engines and transmissions; lower operating temperatures and added spinout protection provided by the addition of a new patented, standard equipped lubrication pump; forged, heat-treated steel differential cases boost strength for increased gear and bearing life; 16 extra-large, 20-mm diameter ring gear fasteners ensure high clamp load for better reliability; integrated ring gear and wheel differential mounting system eliminates bolted joints for additional reliability; an integral pinion cage and carrier adds stiffness and strength while eliminating a potential leak path.

“This all-new product family from Dana includes six patented or patent-pending features, and through advanced engineering developments actually reduces the total component count by more than 50 percent versus conventional heavy-duty tandem drive axles for maximum reliability,” added Slesinski. “The Spicer D190 family of axles also features the strongest axle housing box section in its class.”

The Dana Spicer D190 standard axle warranty is up to 5 Years/500,000 miles for approved vocational applications with Roadranger approved and factory-filled, synthetic lube.
