TAMPA, Fla. — DENSO Sales California yesterday announced the availability of its lightweight starter, designed specifically for use on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment with 10-to-16-litre diesel engines.

The 12V 5.0 Offset Gear Reduction Starter weighs in at about 23 lbs and will be available this spring. With a clockwise rotation, the DP6 10 tooth and M3 12 tooth pinion designs are interchangeable with competitors 11 and 12 tooth configurations.

The company says the new compact and lightweight design allows for easy installation, and reduces total vehicle weight. As well, the high torque model maximizes starting power and improves cold starting, while the slow rotating engagement improves the durability of pinion and ring gear. The needle bearing in-drive housing allows for long life operation of the vehicle.
