Flow Below’s AeroFender boosts fuel economy

Flow Below has introduced its AeroFender, which it claims is designed to improve the fuel economy of day cab and single-axle trucks by smoothing the turbulent airflow around tractor tires.

The company said in a news release it is an upgrade to traditional quarter fenders, that would allow fleets to reduce drag while also preventing sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.

“AeroFender is proven to save 1.49 gallons for every 1,000 miles driven. That’s a 0.6 cents per mile improvement,” the release reads. “The product was designed with day cab and regional fleets in mind, though long haul fleets are also seeing benefits from the additional drag-reduction.”

Flow Below adds that the fuel-saving claims were supported by track and real-world testing, promising the product will pay for itself in the first 12-6 months of use.
