FREDERICTON, N.B. — The biggest road construction effort in New Brunswick is nearing an end. The highway between Fredericton and Moncton is predicted to be opened as early as September.

The new section of the 105-kilometre (62-mile) stretch awaits finishing touches including line striping, lighting and guardrail installation. By the end of November the entire stretch of road will be open, cutting about 30 kilometres (18 miles) off the distance between the two provincial cities.

The four year project contracted by Maritime Road Development Corp. used state-of-the-art construction techniques and cost almost $580-million.
