PORTLAND, Ore. — Freightliner has announced availability of a more comfortable and highly visible seatbelt.

The bright orange seatbelt produced by LifeGuard Technologies will be available for order on Freightliner Cascadia, Columbia, Century Class and M2 trucks. The company claims the belt also includes comfort features such as a Komfort Latch, which reduces seatbelt irritation by relieving tension so the belt doesn’t rub against the driver’s shoulder, and the Sliding Komfort Latch which automates the process of relieving seatbelt tension while providing an inch of slack.

“We want to give owner/operators and fleet owners the right tools to safe practices on the road,” said Melissa Clausen, director of product marketing, Freightliner Trucks. “Safety is a priority not only to Freightliner Trucks, but to the entire transportation industry.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has stated that drivers who wear a seatbelt are nearly twice as likely to survive and accident. The highly visible colour of the LifeGuard seatbelt assists fleet managers and law enforcement officers in identifying whether or not a driver is wearing the safety device.

The seatbelts are available for order immediately.
