PORTLAND, Ore. — Freightliner Trucks has made ConMet’s CastLite brake drums standard equipment on all truck models.

The newly-available drums are designed to deliver weight savings of up to 15 per cent and improved performance at a lower cost premium than other lightweight designs, and are available for a wide range of medium- and heavy-duty vehicle applications.

“The unique design and quality manufacturing of the ConMet CastLite brake drum make it an excellent option for our medium- and heavy-duty customers,” says Mark Lampert, senior vice-president, sales and marketing, Freightliner Trucks.

The unique shape of the drum offers more surface area for better cooling and improved braking capabilities, the company says. The drums are made of gray iron providing for excellent heat transfer which also improves cooling and allows for the drum to maintain its shape over its life.
