FUEL-TAX REPORTING

Fuel-tax reports and trip records can now be managed automatically and affordably by even the smallest fleets and single-truck owner-operators. The big-name tracking systems are often too costly for a small operation, and much of
the functionality is unnecessary. But TripDAWG (Data Acquisition With GPS) by Calgary’s Total Trucking Management Ltd. can collect positioning data via free
GPS, store it for up to a month, and then download it and create a simple trip
report. It can also tabulate and complete IFTA Fuel Tax returns, prorate licensing,
state weight/distance tax returns, and more.

TripDAWG can also track on- and off-road miles for purposes of claiming credit
on tax-exempt miles and/or PTO time.

The in-truck hardware is inexpensive (purchased outright or leased) and easy to install, and users can manage data on their own or contract with TTML for a menu
of services at very affordable prices, easily within reach of small fleets and even owner-ops. And there are no monthly download fees because all the data is
stored onboard until it’s manually downloaded with a simple USB key.

TTML claims the drivers’ administrative burden can be greatly reduced, while the
accuracy of the trip records is improved by automated data collection. That, the company says, also reduces your audit exposure. Call 877-860-8025.
