Highway weight limits set to begin March 2

FREDERICTON, N.B. — Transportation Minister Percy Mockler announced yesterday that spring weight restrictions for New Brunswick highways will begin on Mar. 2.

Weight restrictions for trucks are imposed each year during the spring thaw period to protect the highway system. These restrictions are scheduled to begin effective Mar. 2 at midnight in southern New Brunswick and Mar. 9 at midnight in northern New Brunswick.

Should weather conditions warrant, district engineers are authorized to close roads to trucks or to impose weight restrictions on highways or portions of highways at any time in order to protect the highway system.

Traditionally, the removal of spring weight restrictions begins in mid-May; however, the final date depends upon weather conditions.
