MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Hino has sold a record number of trucks in Canada over the course of the first half of 2002, thanks to the increasing popularity of its JOC series engine.

Sales rose 10 per cent during the first six months of this year, with more than 500 units sold across Canada.

"This is yet another record for the Canadian division of the company," says Canadian vice-president, Alan Masters.

He says the reason for the increase is Hino’s JOC series engine which boasts between 10 and 15 per cent better fuel efficiency than its nearest competitor, according to Masters. The JOC engine uses Formula 1 technology such as an overhead cam, four valve heads and mechanical fuel injection.

The engines also meet1998 emission regulations and the company is optimistic they will also easily meet the more stringent 2004 regulations.

"In spite of tough emission regulations, Hino is able to achieve much improved fuel economy with the JOC series engine," says Masters.
