TORONTO, Ont. — Hino has announced it’s building a truck assembly plant in Ontario.

The new facility, slated to open in April, will be Hino’s second North American production plant. The other one is located in Long Beach, Cal.

To date, Hino has been outsourcing the assembly of its trucks for the North American market to a Toyota production business in California. Opening the Ontario plant will enable Hino to reduce its delivery time and better respond to customer demands, the company says.

The new plant will also allow Hino to reduce distribution costs, company officials said.

The plant will be based in Woodstock, Ont. and will be 60,000 square metres. The total building floor space will be 12,000 square metres. Production capacity is 2,000 trucks per year and 45 employees will work there. Plant manager will be vice-president Joe Beamson.
