TORONTO, Ont. — The provincial government says it will spend $7.7 million to expand a section of Hwy. 404 north of Toronto.

An eight-kilometre stretch of the highway, which runs from Hwy. 401 north to the Canadian National Railway overpass, will be widened from eight to 10 lanes.

Noise barriers will also be added and lighting improvements will be made. The funding is part of the province’s $20-billion infrastructure program known as SuperBuild. Work is expected to begin this fall with completion slated for next summer.
