Inflation systems and trailer skirts go hand-in-hand: PSI

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — As more fleets equip their trailers with aerodynamic side skirts to save fuel, Pressure Systems International (PSI) is pointing out that tire inflation systems should be used to maintain proper tire pressures.

With trailer side skirts in place, operators must remove the skirt to manually check tires for leaks and damage or to check tire pressures, PSI points out. This results in additional labour hours.

The Meritor Tire Inflation System by PSI constantly monitors tire pressure, alerting a driver when damage is incurred, the company says. Meanwhile, it keeps the tires constantly inflated to the proper PSI. The company also points out the system reduces tire blow-outs, which can damage the trailer skirts.
