International offers Allison automatics on 8500 tractors

International Truck and Engine now offers a five-speed, automatic Allison transmission as an option on its International 8500 regional-haul tractors.

The Allison MD-3066 is a fully automatic, five-speed overdrive transmission that the company says will improve customers’ productivity and profits in demanding short-radius applications, including inter- and intra-city regional haul, and multi-stop urban delivery operations.

The transmission was designed for precise alignment with the International HT 530 high-torque, diesel engines that power the International 8500. This in-step design ensures precision shifting with no power interruption, which means faster route times with less driver effort and better fuel economy, the company says.
