Kenworth C500 adds Bendix stability

by Today's Trucking

Kenworth C500 owners now have the option of ordering the Bendix ESP electronic stability program with their trucks.

Equipped trucks come with the Bendix 6S/6M configuration, which includes six sensors and six modulators, as well as the Bendix Smart ATC automatic traction control and ESP electronic stability program.

The combined Bendix offerings are meant to help stabilize the vehicle in loss-of-control situations. While some roll-focused systems monitor lateral acceleration, the Bendix ESP also monitors steering angles and vehicle direction.

When it looks like stability is about to be lost, the system can step in by pulling back the throttle and selectively applying the tractor’s steer and drive axle brakes, as well as trailer brakes.

The C500 has a gross combined weight rating of up to 500,000 lb., and targets an array of off-road and heavy-haul applications.
