The limited edition Kenworth Icon 900A customized, limited edition, premium Kenworth truck was launched at the Mid-America Trucking Show, the Icon 900, as well as a new 76-in. mid-roof sleeper for the T680 and T880, and Trucktech+ and NAV+ HD options.

The Icon 900 is in a limited production run, and Kenworth is already accepting orders.

It can be ordered in any color and comes standard with many chrome and stainless steel accessories, starting with a chrome hood badge that is a one-of-a-kind and only available on this model. Other distinguishing features include stainless steel fender guards, upgraded headlights, headlamp covers, under door panels and sleeper panels, grille closeout panel, plus a large sun visor. It’s available with 72- or 86-in. sleepers and up to a 600-hp engine.

LED panel lights mounted under the cab and sleeper panels, along the roof, and to the front and rear of the stainless air cleaners make the truck “visually spectacular” when running at night, says Kenworth. Amber LED side turn indicators and 4-in. sealed LED stop, turn, and taillights emit a unique glow.

Inside, a custom dash plate shows the production number. Also included are high back leather seats with special embroidering and a sofa bed upgraded to leather to match the seats.

The new 76-in. mid-roof sleeper for the T680 and T880 will be in production this fall.

Kenworth says it’s aimed at liquid bulk tankers, flatbed haulers, and other operators looking for a lighter weight, more aerodynamic truck with all the driver comforts of a full-height sleeper.

The mid-roof sleeper provides 100-lb weight savings when compared to Kenworth’s high-roof model and up to a 5% fuel economy savings for tanker and flatbed applications, depending on load conditions. The efficient mid-roof design is said to produce lower aerodynamic drag, yet drivers still get 6.5 ft of headroom.

The sleeper features a liftable lower bunk and side storage towers, including hanging storage for drivers to store their clothes. Also available is an optional upper bunk for team drivers or a back wall sleeper storage unit.

Available as a factory-installed option is the Kenworth Idle Management System, a battery-based auxiliary power unit system for air conditioning, integrated directly into the ducting system. Combined with an insulation package for the cab and sleeper, the system provides continuous AC performance in typical off-hour downtime.

Kenworth Trucktech+ will be available for new class 8 trucks spec’d with the PACCAR MX-13 engine starting this summer. Users will benefit from real-time vehicle health monitoring technology provided by PeopleNet, the system’s telematics provider. It will allow the PACCAR MX-13 engine to ‘talk’ with the fleet manager, Kenworth call center, or dealer.

Fault codes and engine performance data are sent via the truck’s standard modem to Kenworth’s analytics center, where possible root causes are diagnosed and solutions are recommended via email notification. Notifications may include: keep driving, no action required; keep driving and have the fault addressed during the next service interval; head to a dealer for service; or pull over to prevent damage. If the customer needs to take the truck in for service, the system maps out the locations of the three closest repair facilities. In addition, the data is sent to a secure web portal where the fleet manager can review the truck’s location, status, identified issue and recommended solution.

The system is included free for the first two years a new truck is on the road, or during the duration of an extended engine warranty period, if purchased. After that the remote diagnostics tool can be maintained by subscription.

NAV+ HD is a next-generation, multi-function communication and entertainment system that’s now standard for new Kenworth class 8 trucks ordered with the premium interior package, and available as an option for all other new class 6-8 conventional models.

It features a 7-in. high-definition touch screen, plus integration into the Kenworth SmartWheel steering wheel. The system offers hands-free Bluetooth phone capability, truck navigation through Co-Pilot, iPod and MP3 integration, integrated SiriusXM satellite radio, virtual gauges, camera inputs, and many other features, including WiFi capability.
