HOUSTON, Tex. — Two of Shell Lubricants’ heavy-duty motor oils have successfully met the new Mack EO-N Premium Plus 03 specification.

Both are allowed for use in all Mack engines, including cooled and internal EGR engines.
Mack issued the new specification guidelines on September 16, 2003.

“The specification describes engines oils to be used in Mack ASET AC and AI 2002/2003 emission certified engines,” said Greg Shank, staff engineer – lubrication, filtration & coolant technology for Mack Powertrain. “Shell ROTELLA T and Pennzoil Long-Life have been evaluated and have met our specification.”

Dan Arcy, market product manager for Shell, added, “We’ve been anticipating this new specification and the higher performance standards that it demands for some time now. At Shell we strive to be leaders in meeting the latest performance requirements. Following extensive testing, we’re pleased to report that Mack has approved our two premium motor oils for both cooled and internal EGR Mack engines, as well as for the earlier Mack engines without EGR systems.”

Arcy explained that the new Mack EO-N Premium Plus 03 specification required additional testing to validate that heavy-duty motor oils meet increased performance standards in four primary areas. These include the ability to manage higher levels of soot; the ability to better resist shearing; improved seal compatibility; and a new, minimum Total Base Number (TBN). Arcy added, “Shell works hard to ensure our premium oils such as Shell ROTELLA T and Pennzoil Long-Life meet or exceed these new requirements.”

Shell Rotella T 15W-40 is a multigrade motor oil used in diesel or gasoline engines. It meets the warranty and service requirements of all major equipment manufacturers for on-road and off-road applications such as trucking, agriculture and construction. Shell ROTELLA T may be purchased through Shell’s extensive distributor network, truck stops, mass merchandisers and automotive retailers nationwide. Rotella T meets or exceeds API CI-4, Caterpillar ECF-1, Cummins 20078, Mack EO-N Premium Plus ’03, MB 228.3 and Volvo VDS-3 performance requirements.

Developed with 100 percent Purebase base oil, Pennzoil Long-Life Heavy Duty Engine Oil is designed for diesel and gasoline engines that require the use of a premium heavy duty engine oil. Long-Life meets or exceeds the performance requirements of the API CI-4 classification, Caterpillar ECF-1, Cummins CES 20078, and it has received Mack EO-N Premium Plus ’03 approval. Pennzoil Long-Life Heavy Duty Engine Oil provides protection in diesel engines for both on- and off-highway applications, including EGR diesel engines manufactured after October 2002.
