Mack calculator easing range anxiety around electric refuse vehicles

Mack Trucks is helping to relieve any range anxiety among electric vehicle users with a new range calculator that simulates real-world waste collection routes.

The details help customers plan and build routes for the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicles, the OEM says.

The calculator accounts for battery capacity, refuse body application, ambient temperature, terrain, and number of stops on a route.

Using GPS data collected from existing routes, Mack is then able to predict the number of starts and stops that can be completed, accounting for increasing payload, regenerative braking, and the time at each stop.

The Mack LR Electric has a 376-kWh battery capacity, 42% higher than a previous generation of the equipment.
