Mack helps dealers weave Web sites

LEHIGH VALLEY, Penn. — To help its dealers enhance their on-line presence, Mack Trucks, Inc. is providing a template they can use to create their own Web sites.

Offered at no cost to any dealer in the Mack network, the template package includes a home page, as well as sections for showroom, sales, parts, service, leasing, new and used truck inventory, careers, and “about us.” There is also a “specials” page where promotions or sales can be advertised, and three additional pages that dealers can use to create content specifically targeted to their businesses.

The overall look of the template mirrors that of the new Mack Web site launched last Spring, which was developed in conjunction with Imirage, a Lehigh Valley, PA-based Internet service firm. This sleek new site focuses on the company’s core businesses- construction, refuse and heavy distribution.

In addition to viewing detailed information about Mack and its products, visitors to the site can locate Mack(r) dealers, download brochures and photos, and fill out a “request for more information” form that is automatically transmitted to the Mack marketing department.

The site, which currently receives an average of 200,000 “hits,” 4,205 visits, and 24,000 page views per day, was recently named 2003 “Outstanding Web Site” in the International Business category by the Web Marketing Association, and received an Honors award in the manufacturing category in this year’s iNOVA Awards competition acknowledging excellence in corporate sites.

The award-winning design of the Mack Web site is mirrored in the new template package the company is making available to its dealers. Tools included make developing and managing content easy, even for someone with no Web site design experience. And wherever appropriate, links are provided to the Mack site.

For example, the “showroom” section is linked directly to detailed product information on the corporate site.
Watt’s Mack Sales, Inc., located in New Alexandria, PA, was the first dealer to “test” the new system.
“The content manager is top-notch, ” said Barry Holden, Parts Manager at Watt’s Mack. “It’s easy to use, but full of advanced features and capabilities.”

“The template provides an excellent way for every dealer in the Mack network to have a professional Web site – no matter what the business size or level of computer experience,” Holden continued. “This project is certain to generate more traffic to dealer locations. And the fact that it emulates the Mack site helps tie everything together.”

Dedicated to quality, reliability, and total customer satisfaction, Mack Trucks, Inc. has provided its customers with innovative transportation solutions for more than a century.
