LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kenworth has introduced a number of new options and enhancements for its heavy-duty truck lineup, including: a new day cab version of its T660; a larger radiator for the T800; and a new engine offering for vocational trucks.
The company made the announcements at the Mid-America Trucking Show this morning. Featured at the show for the first time was a day cab version of the aerodynamic T660.
We expect the Kenworth T660 to do very well in the day cab market, especially with image-conscious, fuel-efficient private fleet carriers and regional hub-and-spoke haulers, said Gary Moore, Kenworths assistant general manager for marketing and sales. Weve seen more demand for aerodynamic day cabs and the T660 is a perfect match with its comfort, maneuverability and ability to maximize fuel economy.
An extended day cab provides an extra six inches of cab length and five inches of extra cab height. The extended day cab also allows for two more inches in front of the wheel, extra leg room and a driver seat that can recline up to 21 degrees. Theres also two extra cubic feet of storage available behind the drivers seat in the extended day cab, the company announced.
Also announced at Mid-America was a 1,780 square inch radiator for the T800 wide hood model heavy-hauler. The new rad instantly becomes one of the biggest in the industry for Class 8 over-the-road tractors. Kenworth officials said it will improve cooling and help offset the extra heat generated by the latest generation of engines.
Dissipating engine heat is a key for top performance, especially in high demand vocations such as heavy-hauling and oilfield work, said Mike Dozier, Kenworth chief engineer. For Kenworths T800 wide hood model, weve designed a large, efficient radiator and cooling package which can handle up to 600 horsepower engines in applications that really work the engine.
The super-sized rad will be ideal for high horsepower, slow speed applications the company announced. It will be available on T800s with the Cummins ISX, Cat C13 and Cat 15 powerplants.
The T800 wide hood radiator also is designed for up to 600 hp engines and manual or automated transmissions in stationary applications, including pumping or drilling with a split-shaft, power-take-off that drives body-mounted equipment, such as an oilfield cementer, said Dozier.
Finally, Kenworth announced customers will now be able to spec the Cummins ISM 425 hp engine on W900S and T800 vocational models. The ISM will enable customers to reduce weight and increase payloads, the company announced.
The 11-litre Cummins ISM 425 hp engine is 500 lbs lighter than 13-litre engines, while still delivering enough juice to get the job done in most applications.
This combination of Kenworth trucks and the Cummins ISM 425 horsepower engine is a great choice for vocational customers who need a lot of power and weight savings for a bridge formula mixer or a super dump, for example, said Moore. The new engine option is especially useful for weight and cost-conscious operators and will help lower operating costs and enhance productivity. Every pound saved on the truck means one more pound of payload.
