LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thermo King has completely revamped its straight truck reefer line with the introduction of the all-new T-Series unveiled this morning.

Tim Ryan, director, truck product with Thermo King, said the new reefers are 50% quieter and offer 10% better fuel economy and 10% greater capacity than the models they’re replacing. The first three models in the new series will be delivered beginning in August with the remaining models to be implemented in stages over the following six months.

The new reefers feature a sleek, durable exterior skin with in-mold colouring. A honeycomb grille is designed to optimize air flow through the condenser coil and one hatch provides easy access to components as well as the electrical panel. A gauge allows operators to check fluid levels without climbing on top of the vehicle and service intervals have been extended to 2,000 hours, according to Ryan.

A Hybrid SmartPower version of the reefers will be available, which when paired with a hybrid chassis can deliver fuel savings of 40-60%. The reefer can run off the hybrid’s battery pack for about 10 minutes at a time before the reefer’s engine will restart. When driving down the road, the SmartPower reefer can operate off the batteries indefinitely.

The new units have a comparable weigh to the models they’re replacing, Ryan said.

“Our customers’ need, and requests, for additional cost and fuel savings, improved reliability and performance, quieter, cleaner operation and simple functionality and serviceability are what drove the development and innovation of the T-Series,” explained Ryan.
