Meritor creates global logistics services biz

LAS VEGAS — ArvinMeritor says it will offer multiple logistics services to customers through a new business segment called Meritor Aftermarket Services.

Meritor Aftermarket Services – which was announced at Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week in Las Vegas and will launches initially in North America – will act as a "third leg" to the company’s existing Aftermarket and Trailer business.

Through this new business, the company will offer truck manufacturers and other suppliers its decades of experience in value-added packaging, transport management, remanufacturing, warehousing, distribution, among other facets of the third-party logistics marketplace.

Manufactures looking to set up new ventures or facilities in unfamiliar emerging markets like China, would be a natural fit for this business, the company explained.

Tim Bauer was appointed director of Business Development for the new segment and will lead the global market strategy; while Paul Nyers has been named sales manager.

"This is an important step in our aftermarket evolution,” said Joe Mejaly, president of ArvinMeritor’s Aftermarket and Trailer business. “We will now offer companies in the industrial and commercial vehicle markets the opportunity to leverage our recognized strengths in material planning, quality, packaging, distribution and value-added services globally.”

The new business allows Meritor to leverage its large global footprint to become a major player in the global third-party aftermarket logistics marketplace, said Craig Cartmill, general manager, Worldwide Aftermarket Operations for ArvinMeritor.

“We are uniquely positioned to use our strong North American presence and brand recognition to launch this business segment," said Cartmill, who added that the company plans additional business opportunities and expansion in the third-party logistics market as it continues to develop its global infrastructure.
