TROY, Mich. — ArvinMeritor has inked a deal Volvo Trucks North America to supply the OEM with its Meritor Q Plus cab brakes.

The three-year supply contract means the Meritor Q Plus brakes will continue to be standard equipment on all North American Volvo trucks. The Q Plus has been in use since 1991 and ArvinMeritor says it’s the industry’s most popular air brake and is standard equipment on more North American heavy- and medium-duty trucks than any other brand.

The standard brake offering is designed to reduce brake maintenance and downtime and features linings with extra thickness at the maximum wear point. Heavy-duty shoe return springs and parts commonality between the steer, drive and trailer brakes are also key benefits to Meritor’s Q Plus line.

The High-Performance Q Plus cam brake offering consists of larger 16.5" x 5" brakes on the front steer axle with the standard 16.5" x 7" brakes on the rear axle. The system is designed to produce 30 to 60 per cent more brake torque than conventional cam brakes which results into a 20 to 25 per cent shorter stopping distances.

The brakes destined for Volvo trucks will be built at Meritor’s Manning, S.C. and Tilbury, Ont. plants.
