MitFuso celebrates silver anny

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Mitsubishi Fuso Truck is celebrating its 25th anniversary on this side of the Pacific.

The Japanese-based medium-duty truckmaker recently celebrated its Silver Anniversary milestone with a gathering of employees, government officials, business partners, and representatives of its dealer council.

MFTA first opened its doors on September 10, 1985, in Logan Township, N.J.

The company sold 89 trucks and enlisted 41 new dealers the following year.

Four years later, MFTA introduced the industry’s first 4-wheel drive cabover, which remains the only factory-manufactured cabover 4×4 in North America. And in 1999, expanded into Canada.

By 2001, the manufacturer had sold 60,000 trucks across the U.S. and Canada. In 2004, a new line of FE and FG model (Class 3-5) medium-duty cabover trucks were introduced to the North American market, redesigned from the ground up.

Earlier this year, MFTA delivered its 100,000th truck in North America.

Last year, the company made huge strides in Canada, signing its 200th dealer after 10 years of retailing trucks in the country.

At the time, Mike Rumsey, vice president of sales operations says Canada announced the company’s goal to expand its network across the country by 50 percent, adding that Canada is a natural market for its brands.
