More Cascadia Choices

Freightliner Cascadia gets SmartAdvantage optionBuyers can now spec the Freightliner Cascadia with AeroSmart and SmartAdvantage powertrain packages.

The new AeroSmart package allows the latest aerodynamic components available for the Cascadia to be easily combined with the SmartAdvantage powertrain.

Developed by Cummins and Eaton, the SmartAdvantage optimized powertrain improves fuel economy by 1.5% when compared to a truck spec’d with a Cummins ISX15 engine and Eaton UltraShift PLUS LAS transmission.

The powertrain combines the ISX15 with SmartTorque2 with the Eaton Fuller Advantage 10-Speed automated transmission.

Available exclusively with the SmartAdvantage Powertrain, the ISX15 is best for on-highway applications, with higher torque delivered earlier in the rev range, enabling trucks to cruise at 1150-1240 rpm while still maintaining the torque and power needed.

The transmission’s features include the use of lightweight components and precision lubrication. Small gear steps enable downspeeding in overdrive and efficiency in direct drive, and optimized shifting is based on grade, vehicle weight, engine torque and throttle position. Fuel economy is further enhanced through the lubrication design, which reduces churning losses and eliminates the need for a cooler in most applications.

The AeroSmart and SmartAdvantage powertrain packages are now available to order.

Freightliner has also added several new “driver friendly” options for Cascadia and Cascadia Evolution models. They include:

Bose Ride system II truck seat suspension. Studies have shown that almost half of all truck drivers suffer from fatigue and pain levels serious enough to interfere with their work. The Bose Ride system is claimed to eliminate this problem for nearly all drivers, regardless of vehicle spec.

Featuring advanced technologies including sensors and a regenerative electromagnetic motor, the system counteracts the shaking and jarring potentially experienced by drivers on the road. Introduced earlier this year, this “next generation” seat features a Ride Control selector, allowing drivers to customize their ride; enhanced seat-top ergonomics for improved driver comfort; and a new built-in driver orientation module to help first-time users understand how to get the most from the system.

The SmarTire Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) from Bendix is also a new option. It shows real-time pressure and temperature status on a dash display, instantly informing the driver if there’s a tire problem on the road. The sensor is mounted inside of the tire on the wheel to capture accurate tire temperature and pressure and to protect the sensor from damage.

As well, drivers can now add a swivel TV mount for up to a 26-in. flat screen TV with an antenna that can be securely stored when not in use.
